J2150 Final Project: Our First Battle

This past Thursday, my J2150 team ventured out to the north side of Columbia to the CoMO Super Smash Brothers “headquarters” and there Thomas, Leo and myself met the group of gamers. Thomas and Leo took pictures, while I handled the video aspect.

It was a very rewarding experience meeting all the gamers there, and I was surprised about how open they were with us journalists being there. I conducted a couple of interviews and all of them were exceptional in terms of content.

The groups leader, Jace Boster, was very easy to get a good interview of. I’ve gotten better at asking questions in interviews, but Boster’s passion for Super Smash Brothers made it feel like I was just having a conversation about the game, and that interview went on for more than six minutes, and it flew by.

The games I normally play are sports game like NCAA Football and Madden, so it was kind of a breath of fresh air seeing another video game on the TV screen. It looked really fun, and I was offered to play a couple times, but I had to decline to maintain complete objectivity.

Our team will be back at the headquarters next Saturday for the CoMoMo (Columbia, Missouri monthly) tournament. Now that we have a feel for the gamers there, we’ll take even better pictures, video, and interviews. This was more of a warmup/practice round for our content, and we’ll be on our game to do our absolute best. No excuses.
